Donna Atwood was at the Hollywood Mar-Ken campus 1939-40; she was a junior in 1940.

Atwood is an Olympics ice skater who, paired with Eugene Turner, was the United States Figure Skating Champion in 1941. She was with the Ice Capades and coached ice skaters before she retired. She married John Harris, Ice Capades owner.

DONNA ATWOOD – Donna was born in Newton, Kansas, February 14. Her hobby is skating and she is now the West Coast Champion for figure skating. She likes sleeping, movies, and dancing. Detests long telephone conversations and Men. (That’s what they all say.) Favorite song, Ravel’s “Bolero”, and “Rhapsody in Blue” is plenty O.K., too. “Days of Our Years” is her favorite novel and she likes History and Contemporary Civilization. Blue, and green are predominate in her dress. Her ambition is to become a member of the Olympic skating team. Best of luck, Donna!

WHO’S WHO:  Donna Atwood “Graces” the Junior Grade is well known for skating ability and is celebrated from coast to coast.  Small and red-headed Donna’s favorite sport is skating, of course, and she also enjoys tennis and dancing.

Ice skating Donna Atwood and Marilyn Telfer have certainly been breaking records around the country. Donna just won the National Championship and Marilyn won the California skating Championship. Pat Merifield and Buford McCuskor are still touring the country with the Ice Follies. Other fine skaters in the school are Georgia and Betty Shattuck.
