Mickey Black

Mickey Black was Treasurer of her 1942 Junior Class, and she was Art Editor of the Mar-Ken Journal 1942-43. She was also Secretary of the Press Club in 1943.

From the Mar-Ken 1942 Yearbook, as a Junior:
Mickey Black is a little cow-girl from New Orleans who’d like to be a writer on a newspaper. She likes horses, horseback riding, roping and steaks but admits crowding in the show ring annoys her.

From the September 28, 1942 Mar-Ken Journal:
•Mickey Black designed the new Mar-Ken Journal Masthead.
•ON THE SETS: Mickey Black appeared on a daily radio program this summer in a featured role.
•PRIZES WON BY MICKEY BLACK: Sunday, September 20th was a busy day for Mickey Black, who rides under the name of Jan Lester, when she rode in the horse show “Horse Levels of 1942.” Her mare, “Texas Sue” was just as proud as Mickey when she won first and second prizes and a trophy in the shape of a small bronze horse.
