From the October 13, 1942 Mar-Ken Journal:
WHAT’S COOKIN’ – First and Second Grades: Caron Culver, a little 4 year old first grader sings and dances.
From the 1943 Mar-Ken Primary & Junior High School Annual:
Caron Culver wrote the following for the First and Second Grade section of the Annual:
I have a toffy colored kitty named, “Candy.”
And don’t I think she is a dandy?
She can climb up a tree,
While I watch her you see,
And Arthur says: “Really can she?”
Some things I like:
Color – Yellow.
Flower – Yellow rose,
Movie – Tarzan,
At school – writing.
Play – Arithmetic game.
I have three pets. Two are dogs. One is a cat. Missie is my little dog. She shakes hands with me. She sits up to say, “Please Caron,” and “Thank you Caron.” I hold her front feet and she walks across the street. She is a good pal.
I like to say this little poem:
“I like to think when I am in school
That high above the trees
The American flag, red, white, and blue,
Is flying in the breeze.”
