From the 1943 Mar-Ken Elementary and Junior High Grades Annual:
•Luisa Garcia and Marlene Foltz shared the job of Third and Forth Grade Treasurer.
•Marlene Foltz wrote: SPANISH
I choose Spanish instead of French because the people in South America nearly all speak Spanish. Our president went to Mexico to bring us closer together. After the war we will be much more friendly and I thought it would be nice to be able to talk with our neighbors.
I like the way the people in Mexico dress, their large hats, the dances they do and the bright colors they use. I would like to go to Spain because a girl in my room came from Spain, Her name is Luisa. I would like to see the country she came from.
