From the September 27, 1940 Mar-Ken Journal:
YOU AND I – FROM PRIMARY TO JUNIOR HIGH: Freddie Mercer – I am here from Detroit. I worked for Columbia and had a fine vacation. Freddie is a new student, but already he has many friends at Mar-Ken.

From the 1941 Mar-Ken Primary & Junior High Yearbook:
Freddie Mercer was in the fifth/sixth grade class in 1941. Freddie co-authored an article, The Cavalcade of America, and did art work for the Yearbook.

From the 1942 Mar-Ken Primary & Junior High School Yearbook:
•Seventh Grade Class Predictions: Freddie Mercer will be the world’s greatest double talker.
•Class Ambitions: Freddie will be a singer.
•At Open House, Freddie displayed his telegraph set and gave a demonstration.
