From the Mar-Ken 1940 Yearbook:
BOB ROMER – Bob is a native son, born in Hollywood, August 9, 1923. His hobby is collecting Petty drawings and I didn’t say “pitty”. Favorite pastime is surf board riding. He likes dark brunettes. Dislikes octopus! and sharks. Don’t blame him, do you? Song is “Moonlight Serenade”. Choice of books is “Beneath Tropic Seas”, hmmmmmm, water again! Likes Geometry, and anything blue. Ambition is to remain a bachelor.
Bob Romer was Honorable Mention for the award for All-Around Achievement in 1940.
From the November 8, 1940 Mar-Ken Journal:
WHO’S WHO: Bob Romer – – Collecting snakes is this lads adoring hobby. Imagine! But . . on the sidelines he can invariably be found surf-riding at some favorite beach on weekends.
From the November 20, 1940 Mar-Ken Journal:
THANKSGIVING PLANS: Bob Romer – – He doesn’t know.
From the Mar-Ken 1941 Yearbook, as a Junior:
Bob Romer is another camera bug. He was born right here in the City of Angeles on August 9th. His hobby is photography and his favorite sport is surfing. His pet peeve is people who act before they think. For reading material, Bob likes “Superman” and for a favorite song, he suggests Crosby’s “You Forgot About Me.”
From the Mar-Ken 1942 Yearbook, as a Senior:
Bob’s ambition is to be happy, but we can’t see how when his hobbies are photography, herpetology, oranthology, – – – and asking questions. “Robbin” enjoys Sociology also, and other assorted “ologies”. He hates people who act before they think, so perhaps that accounts for his periods of quiet. Shhh! He’s thinking before he acts!
Robert was Senior Class Treasurer, 1942, and he was Vice-President of the Mar-Ken Chapter of the National Honor Society.
From the September 28, 1942 Mar-Ken Journal:
ALUMNI NEWS: Bob Romer has started at U.S.C. In addition to his other subjects he is taking officers training for the Navy.
