Girls in 1935

Girls in 1935

This photo was taken at the time of graduation, 1935, in front of Lawlor Professionals’ School on the corner of Hollywood Blvd. and Taft Avenue, Hollywood, California.  It shows Jeanne Carpenter on the left with her back to the camera; to her right, also with her back to the camera, is Louise Montgomery. I believe that the girl on the right side is Helen Robey, and the one in the center looking straight into the camera is Marion Bell; I am not sure of the other girl to her right – can anyone help out with the identities here?

Girls Hitchiking in 1935

Girls Hitchiking in 1935

This 1935 photo was taken in front of the Lawlor Professionals’ School on the corner of Taft Avenue and Holywood Blvd. This was graduation day 1935, and the girls posed hitchhiking. On the right end is Louise Montgomery, with Jeanne Carpenter next to her. The girl in the center is not identified. The second from the left is Marion Bell. And the one on the left end is unidentified. Can anyone help us out?

Lawlor Professionals Casting Book

Lawlor Professionals’ School published this Casting Book for its students to help them get jobs.  The book would have been given to the studios and Central Casting.  It is believed the book was published in 1935, although some of the photos may have been taken earlier.  It is also believed that the students in the book paid for the ads as there were many more students at the time who were either working in the entertainment industry or aspiring to do so.  The softbound book pictured is owned by George Billings, whose ad appears in it, and the images are being used with his permission.
