From the November 24, 1938 Mar-Ken Journal:
The fifth and sixth grade room has been working on an activity; “The Contributions of Our Ancestors.” The children have this work put in bookform.  Each child took a country from which his ancestors came, and wrote about it as his most important chapter. Each used countries such as England, France, and Germany. They are also writing about the countries as follows:
Robert Beatley:  NATIONALITY: Swiss – COUNTRY: Switzerland

Robert wrote a piece about the class visit to the Diamond walnut packing plant in the 1940 Yearbook.

From the 1941 Mar-Ken Primary & Junior High Yearbook:
In the Yearbook’s Last Will & Testament, a classmate “leaves to Robert Beatley her ever high grades. (as he needs them badly.)”  Robert served as a Yearbook photographer.  He made sandblocks for the school’s Rhythm Band, and he co-authored an article about the Band for the Yearbook.
